My first "Severus" is dead....(sob).... I remember as a teenager in high school, RUNNING home every day so as not to miss that day's episode of "Dark Shadows". The draw of the show? The "dark" hero---the tragic Barnabas Collins. Trapped into a life he abhorred because of the curse laid upon him by a woman he hated (the lovely but horrific Angelique)....forever separated from the woman he loved (the sweet and innocent Josette)....wanting to be a creature of the light but condemned to darkness and infamy....yet in spite of all that he tried to stay true to principles of honor and nobility---his one downfall being the woman he loved.... RIP, Barnabas----(Jonathan Frid)----because of you, my heart was ready to fall in love with another "dark hero" when he came along.... I just found this, for any "Dark Shadows" fans--- apparently someone interviewed the show's creator, and he gave THESE stories of how the characters' lives turned out, for all those who wondered "what happened" to everyone when "Dark Shadows" was cancelled: Just found this as well: A link listing "The Loves of Barnabas Collins"---has all the details listed so as to minimize confusion over all the time-travel situations, and a trivia game you can play to test your knowledge of the show: http://www.funtrivia.com/en/subtopics/The-Loves-of-Barnabas-Collins-188356.html | | Saturday, April 14th, 2012 | | 9:19 pm |

Not dead, just no time to breathe...
Hi folks--- Dropping in to let you know I'm still alive. I've become the "Mama shuttle" for 3 very busy teenage boys (and 3 adolescent dogs) who have been going in many opposite directions lately. Remember the # 2 son who was in White Christmas in December? This week he's both the Friar and Boracchio in "Much Ado About Nothing" that his school of the arts is putting on. Opening performance tonight! And I (and my head cold) were helping out in what is called the "Green Room" with snacks and general support of the young actors / actresses during the play. My # 1 son (the one who is blind) has been performing in some type of musical adjudication or competition or scholarship every weekend for the past month and a half. Last weekend he had two piano scholarship auditions in one day, and won 2nd place in one of them! We are so thrilled! By the way, if you'd like to hear him play, he has a webpage now on a site called "Musical Overture"; it's http://www.musicaloverture.com/videos/by/ByfaithnotbysightMy # 3 son has been helping me take our adolescent dogs to the vet or groomers lately, and to stop by on the way to watch trains go by at the park near our house. I wish I'd had (or taken) time with the older two, now, to just STOP and just "be" together and do things like watch trains.... Plus there's all the normal "school" and "life" stuff.... So..........not dead....just run to death....but I wouldn't change a thing---they're growing up WAY too fast, now.... | | Sunday, February 19th, 2012 | | 2:49 pm |
Well, didn't expect this one...
Science, Wisdom, Knowledge, Education.
The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know. The High Priestess is also associated with the moon however and can also indicate change or fluxuation, particularily when it comes to your moods. What Tarot Card are You? Happy Birthday Dr. Denmark!
Happy 114th birthday to Dr. Leila Daughtry-Denmark, the trail-blazing, research-pioneering, and uncompromisingly forthright voice on child-rearing whose wisdom helped many of our kids get off to a great start in life! God bless you, Dr. Denmark, and many more! Here's the blurb on her from one of our local news stations: (which doesn't do her justice---see more info following) Georgia Woman Turns 114Updated: Wednesday, 01 Feb 2012, 8:32 PM EST Published : Wednesday, 01 Feb 2012, 8:32 PM EST By MYFOXATLANTA STAFF/myfoxatlanta ATLANTA - State lawmakers took a break from business to mark the 114th birthday of a Georgia woman on Wednesday. OK, I have to do this...
I said, a while back, no more "political" posts. But this is about freedom of conscience and the liberty to live according to one's own deeply held religious beliefs---a basic freedom upon which this nation was founded. I cannot, in all good conscience, "not" speak up when such a blatant attack on freedom of religion is taking place. In respect to those who'd rather not read it, I've put it under the cut. ...And Now for Something Completely Different...
...for those who'd like a little humor, or for whom Christmas had its "Bah, Humbug!" moments, here's a little funny for you. It's based on the original "Twisted Christmas" version, with a few changes---enjoy! | | Sunday, December 25th, 2011 | | 7:06 pm |

This is so cool...
Sorry for the AWOL----recuperating from White Christmas. Stephen was WONDERFUL--the director said he stole the show. He had a small role, but he made it memorable---of a laconic Vermont caretaker who "came with the barn" at the Columbia Inn, and whose most well-known distinction was his ubiquitous "Ay-yup-pp!" I'll try to post some pics as I get them (he's had his friends sending them to him on Facebook, but I'm such a doofus when it comes to technology I still haven't figured out how to use Facebook very well -- I can't even find people on it when they tell me their names---I get 10,000 hits of the same name and can't find the person I'm looking for to friend). Speaking of Facebook, here is a really COOL Christmas video someone made called "If Mary and Joseph Used Faceboook"-- | | Wednesday, December 7th, 2011 | | 9:20 pm |

Just a quick heads-up----this is your last year to buy light bulbs (incandescent)
If you like incandescent bulbs, and don't want to have to worry about having a haz-mat situation in your home if one of the new "curly" light-bulbs breaks (due to the mercury in them), then you need to stock up NOW on incandescents. This is the last year 100-watts can be legally manufactured and sold in the United States--they become illegal in 2012. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/nov/26/time-to-stock-up-on-light-bulbs/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&utm_medium=RSS75 watts become illegal in 2013. 60 watts in 2014. I'm not sure when the lower-wattage (40 W, 25 W, etc.) will be ordered off the market. Then there are these "special" bulbs to consider as well: Appliance bulbs for your refrigerator and oven Wide-base and small-base chandelier bulbs Wide-base and small-base ceiling fan bulbs Three-way bulbs Night-light bulbs Outdoor floodlight bulbs Flashlight bulbs And I'm not sure about the old-fashioned incandescent Christmas-light bulbs--the pretty red, green, yellow, blue, and clear-white I still use in my parents' old strings of indoor and outdoor lights. And--- I guess this is the END of the "easy-bake oven".... http://yourlife.usatoday.com/fitness...ver/50398642/1Just wanted to let you folks know, as it seems lots of folks do not realize this is coming. OK--enough boring news----next post I'll tell about my Thanksgiving with hubby's folks and the HORSES! (Lord I love horses...) | | Thursday, November 24th, 2011 | | 5:03 am |

Hey, ya'll...Happy Thanksgiving! Haven't posted (or even been online) the last several days---life's been too nuts---and while the things I spoke of haven't grown easier, your friendship and support has made them seem "lighter"--so bless all of you for that! I'm off to the kitchen now to start working on Thanksgiving magic, so will probably be offline very sporadically the next few hours / days---so in the meantime, HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all who celebrate it, and HAPPY THURSDAY to those who don't---be careful and have a wonderful tomorrow and weekend! | | Thursday, November 17th, 2011 | | 2:47 am |
no subject---just a thank you and a request
Hi folks: For those who still count me among their friends, I want to say: Thank you. I know a person--or, at least, I "suppose" a person--should not put so much weight on that part of their lives that consists of their "internet friends". Yet, I am not merely just 'saying' it when I say that you folks who are my friends---or were my friends in the past---are more than just mere passing acquaintances to me. I am not a "Facebook" or "Twitter" type of person. There's nothing wrong with those formats at all; I just figured people had far better things to do with their day than learn what I ate for breakfast or the latest antics of my cats (cute as they are). Which is why, years ago, when I discovered Live Journal, I immediately rejoiced with exceeding great joy--for here was a place where I could truly get to know folks for whom I had already developed great respect due to their gifts in creating magic with words. And I felt then--and still feel--utterly humbled and privileged that you folks, with such gifts and such talents, would open yourselves to share your lives with utter strangers and 'worshipers from afar' like me. In reading not only your stories, but your thoughts, your philosophies, your daily trials and tribulations and triumphs--I've felt a true kinship with many here, even though I may not have known your "real" name or where you lived or the intimate details of your life. It was your HEART you shared with me and others here, and I acknowledged that and was honored by it. To me, you were more than mere acquaintances, as I said---you were my internet "family". You were "sisters" in the sense that we shared many things in common, not least of which was our love of JKR's world, or of Harry Potter, or Severus Snape----I felt I had found here more people with whom I shared a commonality of thought than I had ever known in my life before, and certainly not among my immediate circle of family and friends. You filled a huge need for me--the need not to feel so alone, to feel "at last! I am not the only one on earth who feels this way, thinks this way, likes this or doesn't like that, or has this in common with me"---and I am not exaggerating when I say that means the world to me. So....thank you. I don't say it often enough; I don't acknowledge birthdays often enough (though I note them all), and I've just about stopped posted altogether---but I want you to know that I still lurk here and read about the goings-on of your lives, rejoicing with your joys and commiserating with your struggles and sorrows---and you ladies do truly mean a lot to me, even though (for the most part) we've never met. However, to my deep sorrow I have lost touch with many --and it is of them I'd like to make a request (under the cut)-- ( Over a year ago... ) | | Saturday, July 23rd, 2011 | | 5:06 pm |
Thought the teachers here might like this...
A news forum I often read had a post by a member listing "100 Things Your Kids May Never Know About". (I'll put the link in at the end if you're interested in taking a look.) One member made this comment on one of the items:
37. Finding out information from an encyclopedia.
At our school, the Internet was down one day when the children wanted to find something out. I suggested they try the encyclopedia. "What's an encyclopedia?" they asked. "It's a series of books, a compendium of currently accepted facts and theories about the nature of things ... kind of like a paper Google." "Ohhhh!" They spent hours browsing. http://www.timebomb2000.com/vb/showthrea d.php?387252-100-Things-Your-Kids-May-Ne ver-Know-About | | Sunday, June 26th, 2011 | | 1:42 pm |
Defiant Faith in Minot...
These two videos were posted to YouTube by residents of Minot. Given what they are going through right now, I thought this defiant faith in the face of disaster courageous and beautiful beyond words. Posted on YouTube with both videos are requests for help and donations to the Minot Red Cross. | | 1:40 am |
Common Sayings Mis-Said----Which Ones Drive YOU Crazy?
Ok, in searching for the "You All" poem for the last post, I ran across this lovely little site where a discussion was going on of "common sayings mis-said", and the reasons why such sayings (and others) drove folks nuts. There are some here SO hilarious (I particularly liked the sixth one below) I just had to share them. PLEASE do comment on your favorites among them--or maybe share more???.... (from http://bitsandpieces.us/2010/11/28/what-c ommon-sayings-do-people-get-wrong/) What common sayings do people get wrong? Here are a few answers: - I heard a girl say “I’m going out on a limp here”.
- My wife once said something about our cats not being able to pick something up because they lacked "disposable thumbs".
- For all intensive purposes
- Be more Pacific.
- I returned a call to a claims adjuster, to receive her voicemail greeting that said she was in the office from 8 AM to 5:00 PM, specific time.
- “I really enjoy your self-defecating humor.”
- It’s a “mute” point vs “moot”. Drives me insane.
- I never knew my dad was saying “up and at ‘em” as opposed to “up and atom”.
- Labtop
- “I did a complete 360 and turned my life around”
- “expecially”. Ugh.
- “ex cetera”
- “Take it for granite.”
- Happy Valentime’s
- irregardless of the facts
- I said “play it by year” for, well, years.
- “Li-berry” instead of “library”
- Fustrated
- “supposably”
- A co-worker told me “I am not very computer sassy”.
- Old timers instead of Alzheimer’s.
- Or All timers.
- People using the phrase “I literally” figuratively. Ex: I literally died laughing
- I had a friend who thought the song was Ducks in the Wind.
- On accident.
- nukular
- I could care less.
- Wheelbarrel. 30 minute argument at work over barrel/barrow. 4 took the side of barrel, 10 on the side of barrow.
- “Each one worse than the next,” as opposed to “Each one worse than the last.”
- Warshington! THERE IS NO ‘R’ IN WASHINGTON!
And I'll add another: saying "To get shot of" instead of "To get SHED of". My Appalachian-mountain-ancestried parents (who taught me many another archaic Elizabethan phrase) taught me this one, and I've noticed it's degenerated on both sides of the pond to "shot", instead of "shed". Every time I hear or read of someone saying "She should get well shot of him", I inwardly groan as I picture perfectly civilized folks pulling out shotguns and having it out with one another--aaack! | | 12:32 am |
Middle-Age Texting Codes... MIDDLE AGE TEXTING CODES For you (us?) old timers. ATD - at the doctor. BFF - best friend fell. BTW - bring the wheelchair. BYOT -bring your own teeth. FWIW - forgot where I was. GGPBL - gotta go, pacemaker battery low. GHA - got heartburn again. IMHO - is my hearing on? LMDO - laughing my dentures out. OMMR - on my massage recliner.
ORF - old retired fart. ROFLACGU - rolling on floor laughing and can't get up. TTYL - talk to you louder! | | Tuesday, June 21st, 2011 | | 10:38 pm |
